LifePoint & the Media
In the United States, every 90 minutes someone like you and me dies waiting on a transplant. Approximately 1,000 people are on the South Carolina Transplant Waiting list. LifePoint works closely with media throughout South Carolina to bring awareness to the need for more organ and tissue donors in the state and nationwide.
Members of the LifePoint staff, in conjunction with volunteers across the state, are pleased to participate in interviews for both broadcast and print media. Our team of volunteers consists of transplant recipients, donor families, some living donors and even families whose loved ones died waiting for a transplant. Each volunteer has a very touching and motivating personal story about donation. Donor families can describe how they made the choice to donate life to one or more people. Transplant recipients can describe how their lives were saved by others who chose to donate life. Living donors can discuss their choice to donate life to another. And those whose loved one died waiting can inspire others to spare people such a needless loss.
With the help of South Carolina’s media, LifePoint strives to illustrate the staggering imbalance between the number of organs and tissue available and the number of South Carolinians on the transplant waiting list. Through media reports, we also hope to educate the public concerning the need to save and enhance lives through organ and tissue donation for transplantation.
Members of the media can get detailed facts and figures about organ and tissue donation on our LifePoint Press Kit page.
